Advice & Guidance Centre

Welcome to the YCA Let's Talk Hope Cancer Support

Founded in 2018 by the Yemeni Community Association (YCA), Let’s Talk Hope was created to provide much-needed support for individuals and families affected by cancer.

The initiative emerged from personal experiences within our community. In 2016, one of our members faced the shock of her mother’s breast cancer diagnosis, followed by her own diagnosis just a year later. During hospital visits, these members engaged in meaningful conversations with fellow patients, sharing tips and support. However, they realized that these valuable exchanges were often cut short by appointments, highlighting a significant gap in ongoing support.

Recognising this need, the YCA took action. With the guidance of Macmillan we launched Let’s Talk Hope, starting with monthly support sessions at the YCA. We also established a closed Facebook group to ensure that those who couldn’t attend in person still had access to vital support and information.

Tragically, the journey also included the loss of a beloved staff family member to cancer, further fuelling our commitment to this cause. As we expanded our reach, we began hosting additional sessions at the Dorothy Parkes Community Centre in Smethwick.

Today, YCA Let’s Talk Hope has grown to over 570 members on Facebook, fostering a strong network of support among individuals affected by cancer and their loved ones. We provide essential resources, raise awareness, and facilitate connections within the community.

Let’s Talk Hope is open to anyone impacted by cancer, including family and friends. We are dedicated to offering assistance, sharing information about signs and symptoms, as well as providing updates on local health services and events.

Whether you prefer a phone call, a message or a friendly meet-up for coffee, YCA Let’s Talk Hope is here for you. For more information, please contact us at 0121 525 3909 or via email at ameena@yca-sandwell.org.uk. Together, we can navigate this journey and foster hope in our community.

We adhere to the Matrix Standard, which is owned by the Department for Education (DfE). This ensures the delivery of high-quality information, advice, and guidance (IAG) services, enabling people to reach their full potential. As the main organization serving the Arabic-speaking community in Sandwell, we are committed to addressing the unique needs of our community members.
