Dedicated community based organisation founded in 1997
About Us
The Yemeni Community Association (YCA) in Sandwell is a dedicated community-based organization founded in 1997, with a mission to represent and address the needs of the Yemeni and other Arabic-speaking communities in Sandwell. The YCA also extends its services to other disadvantaged groups within the area, aiming to bridge the gap between the community and various service providers.
Objectives
Impact
To provide services to those residing within the Sandwell borough, in particular the Yemeni and Arabic speaking communities.
Social Value
To create reach and accessible services to those disadvantaged and marginalised that generate enhanced social capital and economic regeneration.
Sustainability
To seek and manage a range of contract, grant and fundraising opportunities that enable YCA to be sustainable, grow and develop.
Value for Money
To provide evidence of value for money in the delivery of services to the YCA community.
Quality
To support the delivery of high-quality services that meet the standards required and the needs of the local community.
Partnership Working
To develop and maintain strong effective partnership networks that enable the delivery and access to high quality services. Partnerships currently and will continue to include links across the public, private and third sectors.
Our Mission and Services
At YCA, our core mission is to provide cultural orientation, educational development, and skills training for children and adults. We offer a wide array of services that include language classes, health and wellbeing support, and advice on housing, employment, and immigration. By doing so, we ensure that our community members can access the necessary resources to improve their quality of life.
Our Facilities
Our main hub is the Greets Green Access Centre, which provides affordable and accessible conference and training facilities. This centre is vital for hosting our activities and services, serving as a gathering point for community members to learn, connect, and support each other. In 2015, we expanded our facilities with the addition of the YCA Cultural Centre, which provides a dedicated space for spiritual and cultural activities, further promoting community cohesion and inclusion.
Community Activities and Programs
The YCA is proud to host numerous activities and programs designed to engage and support our community. These include Arabic classes, youth clubs, social evenings, sports activities like karate and football, and fitness clubs. We also offer specialized services for the elderly and run a well-equipped IT learning centre to help bridge the digital divide.
Prayer Room and Timetable
An essential aspect of our Cultural Centre is the prayer room, which offers a peaceful environment for spiritual reflection and community prayers. We provide a comprehensive prayer timetable to ensure that all community members can attend prayers at the designated times. The prayer room and timetable are integral to our commitment to support the spiritual needs of our community, fostering a sense of unity and devotion.
Partnerships and Achievements
Over the years, the YCA has formed strong partnerships with various statutory and voluntary organizations, including Public Health, Adult Social Care, and the Sandwell Council of Voluntary Organizations. These collaborations have enabled us to address pressing community issues, such as health disparities and youth disaffection, through comprehensive and inclusive programs.
